Indian Culture Abroad

India as a country has diversified Culture all across. In the major Metro Cities today, I have witnessed the influence of the Western Modern Culture. Unfortunately, the bad’s are pick-up and no one bothers about the goods of the Western Culture.

During my education days in the USA, in the 1990's, I have personally witnessed the induction of our Indian Culture. Introduction of Pathshala happened back then. Pathshala, had no religion, but professed culture. Learning an Indian language became important. Learning various dances, our native musical instruments, classical singing - all of this got introduced. Kathak Guru's like Chitresh Das, setup their own dance institute, and surprisingly the same institute has set up in India to teach the Kathak Dance. Amazing, isn't it, an Indian Dance Guru, sets up a school in the US, and that institute now teaches Kathat to students in India.

Similarly, many colleges in the US have Indian Cultural Groups. This becomes a platform to bring all Indians on one platform. All festivals, whether its Diwali, Eid, Navratri, Ganesh festival, etc. are celebrated with full energy and as per respective rituals. During Navratri, its an amazing site to see the Indian Community dressed in ethnic clothing and performing the Garba Dance with super grace.

On the other hand, Indian’s in India are adopting the Western Culture. From the English accent to habits like daily drinking, Vegetarians eating Non-veg food (why? because it kool), inclusion of western music with Indian music, and creating a Genre which is so confused.

Where will this new generation reach in India? Days are not far, when more NRI’s will come India to preach our culture. This Gen Next there will speak indian languages whereas, we our Next Gen will speak only English

Can we change this???

Think! Think! - Can we say YES, we can retain our culture .
