My Thepla Story

I would like to share about - A Moment of Joy, I experienced 10 days back.

It was Saturday morning, when I got a msg from my cousin to help their NGO. This was not for money but for giving Theola’s (Masala Roti) for the Migrants who are travelling back to their homes. For those how agree, would have to make them ready for Sunday pickup.

I immediately jumped out my chair and decided to contribute by making these Thepla’s myself. I could have informed my cook to make them, but I didn’t. Trust me, I had never made Thepla’s before. Yes, I enjoy my cooking experiments, but this one was first time. The NGO - SRMs request was to give Thepla’s packed in 4 as a Roll and give as many such rolls as one can make.

I remembered vaguely my mom and my cook making them before, so I recollected the recipe from my brain archives, and collected all necessary ingredients. From preparing the dough to rolling the Thepla’s and finally baking them on a pan, I did everything myself. Looking at my enthusiasm, my daughters later gave me a hand to roll out the Thepla’s. Wow, when the Thepla’s were made, I was surprised to see what I had achieved. I made close to 90 pieces of Thepla’s.

It was a rainy day and by 6pm, our cook and our 3 home helpers came for their Tea at that time, they we amazed to see what I had done. I immediately gave them sizzling hot 2 Thepla’s each with their Tea. The joy on their face was a Kodak moment.

Finally, I kept aside 20 rolls for SRM - i.e.80 Thepla’s, which on Sunday evening their representatives came for collection. When I handed over the bag to them, the joy they had for the work they were doing was unbelievable. They kept thanking me for what I had done and they told me that I have inspired many more to do the same.

For me, this was one of the most joyful and fulfilling moments. The inner satisfaction was at a different level. I hope my story inspires you all to continue to give back to the society in which ever way you can.

Incidentally, my cousin asked for the picture of the Thepla’s and send, so I shared with him a collage which my daughter’s made. This fellow passed this image on to his members of SRM and he said that just looking at my picture 4-5 more folks decided to make Thepla’s. This really felt amazing.

I end with these words:

“Jab Dil Mein ho Chahat Kuch Karneki,

To Koi Bhi Rukavat Nahi Aati,

Bus, Jis Dil Se Aapne Socha Hai,

Ushi Dil Se Aap Aage Badho,

Aur Jab Aap Apna Mukaam Paoge,

Woh Khushi Ke Pal Nibhaoge,

Wohi Pal...

Sabse Pyara Hota Hai”

Thank You
